Generic BuSpar (buspirone) is most often prescribed to treat anxiety disorders. An imbalance of chemicals in the brain can cause fear, irritability, tension and dizziness. Generic BuSpar can restore the balance of chemicals and thus decrease the symptoms of anxiety.

BuSpar should be taken in strict compliance with your doctor’s instructions and directions on the prescription label. Do not alter dosage or the prescribed period of use without prior medical consult.

Generally, BuSpar is prescribed for a short period of 3 to 4 weeks. However, individual prescriptions depend on your health condition.

BuSpar should be taken at a predefined time every day, during meals or otherwise.

If you experience any symptoms associated with allergies such as difficulty breathing, hives, swollen tongue etc., stop using the medication and seek urgent medical help.

Contact your medical specialist immediately if you experience any of the following: shortness of breath; chest pain; feeling close to fainting.

Common side effects of BuSpar include: dizziness, blurred vision; drowsiness, fatigue; restlessness; nausea, dry mouth, digestion problems; insomnia; sore throat, stuffy nose; ringing in the ears.

Note that this list does not include all possible side effects. Other side effects might occur depending on individual health conditions.

As BuSpar may lead to the clouding of consciousness, alert taking it before driving or other activities that require utmost concentration.

Avoid combining BuSpar with alcohol, as it may increase the probability of side effects.

As combining grapefruit juice with BuSpar may lead to unwanted side effects, discuss the consumption of grapefruit products with your doctor.

Anti-depressants, anti-anxiety medicines, painkillers, sedatives, allergy medicines and muscle relaxers can increase the sleepy effect of BuSpar.

Notify your doctor of all medications you are taking before starting the course of BuSpar, especially: bosentan; cimetidine; conivaptan; dexamethasone; haloperidol; nefazodone; antibiotics such as erythromycin (E.E.S., EryPed, Erythrocin), clarithromycin (Biaxin), rifampin (Rifater, Rifadin, Rifamate), rifapentine (Priftin), rifabutin (Mycobutin) or telithromycin (Ketek), antifungal drugs such as ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), voriconazole (Vfend) or posaconazole (Noxafil); barbiturates e.g. secobarbital (Seconal), butabarbital (Butisol), phenobarbital (Solfoton) or pentobarbital (Nembutal); hepatitis C medications telaprevir (Incivek) or boceprevir (Victrelis), narcolepsy medications such as modafinil (Progivil) or armodafinil (Nuvigil); medications to treat seizures such as oxcarbazepine (Trileptal), primidone (Mysoline) or carbamazepine (Equetro, Carbatrol Tegretol); heart or blood pressure medication such as verapamil (Calan, Covera, Isoptin, Verelan) or diltiazem (Tiazac, Cartia, Cardizem); HIV/AIDS medications e.g. etravirine (Intelence), efavirenz (Sustiva, Atripla), nelfinavir (Viracept), indinavir (Crixivan), nevirapine (Viramune), saquinavir (Invirase) or ritonavir (Norvir, Kaletra).

BuSpar can also interact with other medications.

If you have missed your dose of BuSpar, make sure to take it as soon as possible. However, two doses should never be taken at the same time, so if the time for the next dose has almost come, DO NOT take the dose you have missed.
